Foods to Boost Immune System

The immune system consists of various cells, proteins and tissues that protect the body against germs, bacteria and viruses. When the resistance is weak, the body is susceptible to any disease such as allergy, asthma, and influenza virus.

One of the most important cells of the immune system is the white blood cells. The white blood cells produce antibodies that fight against antigens or viruses that the body acquires in different ways, such as touching dirty things or infection from sick people. Resistance can also be weakened due to stress, smoking, and eating process foods.

Here are some healthy foods that will strengthen immunity, because they contain nutrients that the body needs every day.

Citrus fruits – These fruits are rich in vitamin c, which helps produce white blood cells that become the body’s disease fighting cells. Citrus fruits are full of antioxidants that protects the body from damage of free radicals.

Sweet potato – It contains beta carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body. Eating sweet potatoes is an effective defense against free radicals. Pumpkin and carrots are also rich in beta carotene.

Ginger – It is an effective antioxidant and contains many immune boosters, such as potassium, calcium, and manganese.

Garlic – It is known for its minerals and vitamins. It helps lower cholesterol and blood pressure. It is also lowers the risk of heart disease, improves mental health, improves immune function and reduces the risk of certain types of cancer.

Broccoli – It is known as one of the healthiest foods in the world. It has low calories and contains vitamins A, C, E, and antioxidants that are effective in preventing and fighting diseases such as, diabetes and cancer.

Turmeric – It is full of healing properties . It helps in improving the functioning of immune system. It is full of anti – inflammatory properties. Turmeric can be mixed into dishes or drink as a tea or with milk.

Spinach – A green leafy vegetable that contains folate that helps make new cells and repair DNA cells of the body. It also has beta carotene, vitamins A,C and K, which are nutrients that are effective for a healthy immune system.

Papaya – It contains antioxidants that strengthen the immune system. It is also a source of vitamin A, another important vitamin for a healthy and functional immune system.

Chicken broth – It contains vitamin A and C, Magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, and other antioxidants. It is also has protein that is effective against infection. And because it is liquid, it can be easily absorbed and digested by the sick person, to avoid dehydration and fast recovery.

Tea – It contains antioxidants such as polyphenols and flavonoids that destroy free radicals that enter the body. It is also a source of amino acid L- theanine that helps create germ fighting compounds in T – cells.
